The The RS:One Class, in partnership with the PWA, the Philippines Sport Commission and the Philippines Olympic Committee, held the 2015 Club Balai Isabel RS:One World Championships from the 7th to 12th December on Taal Lake, Philippines.  The championship, opened to all, allowed international racers to compete through innovative race formats such as the Pulsar (compact slalom, America's Cup style).

RS:One is a multi generational, one-design windsurfing board featuring an easy and light performing 7.8 rig. Espoirs (youth under 22 years old), Seniors (under 40 year old) and Masters (older than 40), men and women, can race together on the same starting line in a collective fleet.

15 races were accomplished in 4 days of racing with 3 Pulsar and 12 Regatta races in a wide range of wind - from 4 to 26 knots.

Despite their early week races lead, USA's Pedro Pascual and the Philippines' Kaibigan Yancy were unable to fight against the impressive Hong Kong sailor, Chun Ting Lee, in the Men's Division. With remarkable consistency in all conditions, he claimed the 2015 World Men's title. 2012 World Champion, Geylord Coveta from the Philippines, completed the men's podium with a great come back, finishing just behind Pascual.

In the women's fleet, Hong Kong's Wai Yan Ngai was crowned the 2015 RS:One world Women's Champion. She delivered a solid week of performance often finishing ahead of many in the men's fleet. Spanish racer Pilar Lamadrid finished third behind Ngai's team-mate Kwan Ching Ma who completed a strong Hong Kong 1-2.

Hong Kong is without any doubt, the best RS:One world nation so far having claimed five World and two Asian championships gold medals. Other Asian nations will have to intensify their training if they want to be in with a chance to win a medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

The 2015 Club Balai Isabel RS:One World Championships ends an intense 2015 RS:One racing season. 2016 season will start in January with the Singapore Open followed by the Asian Championships in Pattaya, Thailand in May, and the European Championships in Loctudy France in July. Dubai will welcome the 2016 World Championships in December, 2016.

Drama and explosive races for the second day of racing!

The RS:One Class, in partnership with the Philippines Windsurfing Association, the Philippines Sport Commission and the Philippines Olympic Committee, is organising the 2015 Club Balai Isabel RS:One World Championships from the 7th to 12th December in Taal Lake, Philippines.

The championship, open to all, allows international racers to compete through innovative race formats like The Pulsar (compact slalom, America's Cup style) and Marathon (long distance).

RS:One is a multi generational, one-design windsurfing board featuring an easy and light performing 7.8 rig. Espoirs (youth under 22 years old), Seniors (under 40 year old) and Masters (older than 40), men and women, can race together on the same starting line in a collective fleet.

Taal Lake has delivered another brilliant racing day with 5 more races. In the morning, 3 Pulsar races (reaching start), prioritised the speed while the 2 afternoon Regatta races demanded tactical ability with challenging shifty winds.

In the women fleet, current leader Pilar Lamadrid makes the drama with her second over early of the competition. She pays cash her risk taking by sliding to the third place behind new leader from Hong Kong Wai Yan Ngai followed by another Hong Kong sailor Kwan Ching Ma.

Despite his speed skills, USA Pedro Pascual hasn't yet found the solution to contain the young Filipino Kaibigan Yancy winning rage. Philippines, again, with Coveta Geylord is now third after an impressive come back from his yesterday 6th position.

In the women's fleet, Hong Kong sailors Wai Yan Ngai and Kwan Ching Ma are respectively first and second.

A day off has been granted tomorrow for racers with a volcano trek programmed, leaving 6 races to be completed over the final 2 racing days.

Taal Lake Delivers on Day One of the RS:One World Championships

8 countries from 3 continents are represented at the RS:One World Championships which have kicked off with 5 races on the beautiful Taal Lake in the Philippines.  On the island of Luzon, it is located just thirty miles from the capital city of Manila and, despite being a lake, the breeze is usually solid at this time of year.

And on day one, Taal Lake certainly lived up to its reputation with winds of 20 knots, gusting 30, for 3 races in the morning followed by 2 after lunch.

On equal points at the end of the day Pedro Pascual (USA-11) and Yancy Kaibigan  (PHI-1) are at the top of the men's leaderboard, separated only by the value of their first discard.  Phattharadanai Chinain (THA-27) is just one point behind them in third place.

And it's also close at the top of the Women's fleet with Pilar Lamadrid (ESP-12) in first place, Wai Yan Ngai (HKG-4) only one point behind in second, 2 points ahead of team mate Ma Kwan Ching (HKG-3).

The championship, open to all, allows international racers to compete through innovative race formats like the Pulsar (compact slalom, America's Cup style) and Marathon (long distance).  Courses will be set up in a way that the on-shore audience can enjoy the races.

TAAL LAKE - PHILIPPINES

The breathtaking scenery at Taal Lake, on the Philippine island of Luzon, makes it one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Located just thirty miles from Manila, Taal is the Philippines’ equivalent to Oregon’s famous Crater Lake, because it fills the caldera of a massive prehistoric volcano. But its geologic history is even more bizarre than that of its Oregonian cousin.

Despite the fact its a Lake, the breeze is usually medium to solid especially at the time of the year, so be prepared for the most unforgettable race of your windsurfing life!
