Gonzalo and Eduardo take South American titles

The hot weather and light winds made racing conditions difficult over the final two days of competition at the South American Championships hosted at the Peru Beach centre in San Isidro, Buenos Aries.

The formula windsurfing fleet were eventually able to complete 2 races on day 4 - with one win apiece for Gonzalo Costa Hoevel (ARG-3) and Janis Preiss (LAT-23). Over in the formula experience fleet only one race race was completed - and a fine win for Alessio Botteri (PER-20).

The final day did not deliver suitable conditions for racing despite attempting to start one race - and the scoreboard remained unchanged from the previous day.

Gonzalo added the Formula South American title to his list of achievements in 2013, winning 8 of the 10 races in the championship.

Eduardo Kretschmer (CHI-1) is the 2013 Formula Experience South American Champion, with an equally impressive 6 race wins out of 9.

Day 2 - racing after a long wait ....

After a long wait for the SE winds to come in the racers head out on the water at 1700 for three races back to back in 8-13kts.  Competitors rigged and raced their 12 mts and battled on the slightly longer course.

Gonzalo Costa Hoeval (ARG-3) took first and third race, but had to settle with a 3rd ,after leading, in the 2nd race as he suffered an equipment failure.

The battle for the second place was still on - Janis Preiss (LAT-23) taking two 2nds and a 3rd. Gabriel Browne (BRA-50) won the 2nd race but had a 4th and a 2nd in the other races.

The highlight of the day was Nahuel Abraham (ARG-1) who showed some serious speed and good tactics starting on port sometimes. He managed to score a 3rd on the first race followed by a 5th and a 4th.

In the Formula Experience fleet the battle is still on. Eduardo CHI1 won two out of three which gives him a comfortable lead. On second place is now Lucio PER20 which won one of the races. On third place is Leo Rebello from Brasil.

For today we see the same forecast as yesterday so we will be racing late again.

Day 1, 5 races completed in both FW and FE fleets!

A very competitive fleet is assembled in Buenos Aries for the 2013 Formula South American Championships; with 33 competitors from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Peru and Latvia. After yesterday's, and today's, early morning registration, we headed on to the water at 1400 hrs with a nice breeze from the E-SE from 8-13 kts.

We had three races scheduled 'back to back' for both fleets - to start with! Then a break of an 1hr and two more 'back to back' races to finish the day in 13-18 kts.

In the FW fleet we saw a good battle for the top three places between Gonzalo, Gabriel (Browne) and Janis (Preiss). Gonzalo won all three races in the first session while Janis and Gabriel took turns on second. For the 4th place Bautista Saubidet had an edge on the rest of the battle which was between Nahuel Abraham, Matto Bonomi, Rodrigo Costa Hoevel, legend Sergio Mehl and Jose Diez.

In the FE class Eduardo "Toto" Herman CHI1 won all three followed by Leonardo Rebello BRA and Matias Canseco from Peru.

After the break the last two races were won again by both Gonzalo and Eduardo in each class.

With 5 races on a great sunny day all racers were more than pleased. The forecast for the second day shows some wind in the late afternoon, so we will see more action coming.
