The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will encompass all 28 sports on the Olympic programme and will be held from August 16th to 28th. The Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (NYOGOC) will work together with the International Olympic Committee to attract the best young athletes from around the world to compete at the highest level. Off the field of play, an integrated culture and education programmewill focus on discussions about education, Olympic values, social challenges, and cultural diversity.. The YOG aims to spread the Olympic spirit and encourage sport participation. The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will represent a happy and healthy platform for the world's young people. This grand stage will be backed by both organizations and volunteers. The YOG also focuses on interconnection through the use of social media to achieve an interactive linkbetween athletes, audiences, the youth of the world and the sporting world. All the participants will be connected through the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. They will experience cultural diversity, develop a healthy lifestyle and promote the sustainable development of our world. Calling all budding young reporters… the Youth Olympic Games need you! The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that the IOC Young Reporters Programme, a sports journalism training programme, will be run during the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. The Young Reporters' initiative will bring 30 young reporters from five continents to the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China from 16-28 August 2014, offering them homes in the Youth Olympic Village alongside the athletes, access to all the sports, and specialised media training from senior sports journalists. It is our pleasure to introduce to you the official mascot for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games: NANJINGLELE! Bold, colourful and fun, we can't wait to get to know this cheeky character, selected following a mascot design competition launched in China earlier this year and unveiled at a grand ceremony held in the host city today. NANJINGLELE was inspired by a unique natural feature of the host city known as the "Rain-Flower Pebble", or the "Riverstone". The word "lele" represents the sound of stones colliding together and is pronounced like the Chinese word meaning happiness or joy. Read more . . . |
