NeilPryde Racing Series, a magical event in Istanbul
Posted On:  14/06/2012 06:10:48

The NeilPryde Racing Series concluded last Sunday at the Istanbul Extreme Sailing SeriesTM stop-over. 98 windsurfers from Turkey competed with the universal, one-design RS:One, an ISAF-approved class.

The RS:One Class features a new, attractive, and dynamic race format: one sail, one board - everyone on the same equipment allowing male and female racers of all ages to compete together.

Courses were set inside the Extreme Sailing SeriesTM  nautical stadium, just meters from the massive crowd and Extreme Sailing SeriesTM  VIP lounge, providing a unique spectator experience and allowing for some exciting close-quarter competition on the water.

Racing was over two days in four divisions - male and female under 22 years (Espoir), male over 22 years (Senior) and male over 40 years old (Master) - achieving 36 qualification races, two finals and one super final featuring the special LED sails.

On Saturday, Sunday and during the super LED final, we witnessed a magical confrontation between a happy father and his daughter (Ozfer Uralp and Dilara Uralp). These unique moments will be engraved in the memories of this formidable windsurfing family.

The top placed in each division from the Saturday's final raced in the super LED night final. Turkish RS:X champion (Olympic division) Ertuglur Incigir was the winner of that race which attracted spectators with a stunning illuminated blue sail spectacle.

Being a one-design class, all RS:One equipment was supplied by NeilPryde, giving an equal chance to all competitors no matter sex or age. The winners of each division and overall super final winner shared the prize money of US$3,000.

The NeilPryde Racing Series will now continue its journey to Porto (Portugal), Cardiff (Wales), Trapani (Italy), Nice (France), and Rio, in collaboration with the Extreme Sailing SeriesTM .
