Interview with Formula Windsurfing Women's European Champion – Olga Maslivets UKR

Q - How do you feel, now you are the European champion FW

Really very happy - I love to race formula but do not get the opportunity very often. I like the challenge of racing in a different class.

Q - Will this title change a lot in your future career as a windsurfer?

Not really. Like Pont my main focus is on RS:X and I will be going to race in Weymouth at the Olympic Regatta.  But every chance I get I want to race formula, and I am now also starting to go wave sailing.

Q - What do you think about this FW Europeans and do you like the venue?

I really like the venue - good all round facilities with beach for launching and grassed area for rigging. The organisation did a good job and I hope they organize more events in the future.

Q - What do you think about the change to 2 sails and 2 fins and how do other sailors react on it?

I think the 2 fins rule is ok, but I do not think 2 sails is enough for most racers.  I would be particularly worried about the impact on women and youth fleets.  But I think the competition at the top will be closer with 3 sail rule.

Q - Do you have any suggestions to improve the number of sailors at an event especially for the women division?

Calendar - making sure to co-ordinate with PWA & RS:X to attract the top sailors; but also better co-ordination with national associations to maximize attendance.

I may be busy with RS:X next year but I will be following the formula racing to see how my friends in the class are doing.

Good luck to Olga next year - from FW Class
