IFCA Slalom Worlds

Alice Arutkin - FRA 111 - Women's World Slalom Champion

Back in December 2009 Alice said, “I would like to become world champion in slalom and in waves one day.”  She has certainly achieved the first goal!  At the recent IFCA Slalom Worlds in Flecheiras Brasil, Alice Arutkin won every round and was announced Women's Slalom World Champion a day early!

18 year old Alice Arutkin from Wimereux France started windsurfing with her father and older brother when she was about 10 years old.  She is an accomplished Formula Windsurfing competitor but particularly loves wave sailing where she has to train really hard to reach her goals, and slalom where the races are really short and the adrenalin rush is very intense.

Women who have inspired Alice include the Moreno twins and Karrin Jaggi but also the men on the French team are really helpful and supportive, particularly as she adventures further around the world, taking part in major competitions.

Shooting star Alice is certainly getting noticed.  Following a string of podium finishes on the French national windsurfing circuit, in 2008 she was PWA Rookie of the Year.

This year she stamped her authority over the girls at the IFCA Slalom Youth Championships at Hyeres in April,  Alice won 7 of the total of  9 rounds - three discards led to a perfect score of 4.2.

She went on to take an early hold on the PWA Ulsan World Cup in Korea in May with a great set of results on day one. Costly mistakes, which can be put down to experience, meant she had to settle in the end for bronze but she proved that the established stars need to watch their backs!  She also took bronze at PWA Womens Slalom World Tour Final at Hyeres and,  combined with other event results, finishes the PWA 2010 season ranked 4th overall.

The motto Alice lives by is:

“Don’t dream your life, but live your dreams!”
