Last weekend the Multivan Windsurf Cup Hohenfelde took place. The regatta was not only the only official ranking regatta of the German Windsurfing Association (GWA) this season, but above all the first official regatta in the new Olympic class iQFOiL.

All regular tour stops of the Multivan Windsurf Cup in 2020 had to be cancelled due to the ban on major events caused by the corona pandemic. This meant that an extensive iQFOiL regatta program had to be omitted.

The German Windsurfing Association and Choppy Water GmbH have joined forces to realize at least one regatta for the riders and the sport with the Multivan Windsurf Cup Hohenfelde. In this context, the iQFOiLer finally came into play. The new Olympic class is very popular. Almost a third of the starters in the discipline Foilracing competed in the iQFOiL division right away. The wind rewarded the commitment. In addition to four eliminations in the slalom discipline, five races in Foilracing were held for the iQFOiLers.

After five races allowing one discard, the strong Dane Christian Justesen (DEN-26) won in the end. With a second place in the overall ranking, Justesen showed that the iQFOiL equipment is fully competitive. Fabian Wolf (GER-404) took second place in the iQFOiL ranking. Jan Moritz Bochnia (GER-9) follows in 3rd place.

As a former PWA World Cup professional surfer, Lena Erdil (GER-33) lived up to her role as a favourite in the women fleet. With a 13th place in the overall Foilrace classification and fifth placed iQFOil starter, she showed an outstanding performance. Sophia Mayer (GER-1247) gives hope for the future as the second-placed young iQFOiL rider.

Brandenburg's Leopold Senst (GER-77) caused a sensation as the fourth-best iQFOil starter and was also first in the Youth-U19 division. Lars Poggemann (GER-730) follows closely behind with an eighth place.

Christian Justesen's second place and no less than four iQFOiLers among the TOP-10 of the overall Foilrace ranking show that the Olympic iQFOil material can keep up with the open Formula Foil equipment.

Some iQFOil drivers were unable to attend due to the parallel Kiel Week. And some could not take part in the first official iQFOiL regatta in Germany for professional or private reasons. Together with the newcomers and changers from other windsurfing and sailing classes coming for the coming season, one can therefore have good hopes for a strong iQFOiL field of participants in the Multivan Windsurf Cup next year.
