2019 IFCA Junior, Youth & Masters Slalom Europeans

98 Competitors from 15 nations have registered and are competing for the 2019 Junior, Youth and Masters Slalom European Championships titles in Alacati, Turkey from 1st through 6th of September.

The local medium wind specialist Bora Kozanoglu takes the first victory in the Masters division, Aruba's Carmen Geelkens (Youth Girls Division) and Turkey's Aylin Ozay (Junior Girls Division) take on the lead after 1 accomplished race in today's tricky conditions.

With the first skippers meeting held at 09:30 and a very light breeze during the morning hours it wasn't until midday when the first races of the championship could officially start. The winds kept building up smoothly from 10 to 12 knots up to 13 to 16 knots.

The Juniors were scheduled first and could manage to race until the C Finals, leaving the A and B for tomorrow which will be interesting to see who will claim the first victory of the 5 days scheduled Championship.

The Master’s division accomplished their first A Final of elimination #1 in very edgy conditions, while the B finals failed to be completed and were abandoned two times due to unsuitable wind conditions during the afternoon.

After a short period waiting for wind improvements, the races continued with the Youth Girls who sailed a full fleet. The Aruban Carmen Geelkens took the first victory in the first race.

The Junior Girls also completed one round of racing and it was local Aylin Ozay who took the lead followed by a very close sprint towards the finish line between the 2nd and 4th competitors resulting in close revision and reviewing of photo finish and video proof as it was a very close call between Oda Severe, Caterina Biagiolini and Elif Ercan.

The strong Junior Boys sailed 7 heats today with the C final done, it will be exciting to see them race the A and B final on the second competition day. The ones to watch are ITA-15 NICOLO SPANU, TUR-80 OMER UCER, TUR-435 BERKE OZAY, TUR-7277 SARP ONKAHRAMAN, TUR-1505 ALI GUNEM, and NOR-66 CHRISTIAN FERDINAND LINNERUD.

Tomorrow the competition will continue with the same racing schedule. The Masters B Final may be the first heat. The forecast predicts slightly better conditions.

The skippers meeting is scheduled for 10:00
