Janis Preiss, LAT-23, is the 2019 Formula Windsurfing Champion
Posted On:  04/05/2019 11:28:36

Despite all efforts, 2 attempted starts, the wind was not playing ball so no races on day two of the Formula Windsurfing World Championships in Portimao. However, there was action on the water on day three with 5 races in the afternoon, the max possible according to the schedule. Janis Priess and Miguel Martinho were fighting for the win in every race, not allowing anyone else to claim either first or second place in any of the races.

Having made the most of Wednesday's conditions, Thursday was back to fickle light winds, competitors held on postponement hoping for a stronger breeze but with no luck. Nothing for it but to declare Janis Preiss, LAT-23, the 2019 Formula Windsurfing World Champion.

Miguel Martinho POR-5 took a well-deserved second place. Estonians Martin Ervin and John Kaju fought hard for the final place on the Podium, finishing on equal points, but it was Martin Ervin EST-202 who stepped up to claim the third place trophy.

Thanks must go to the event organisers and the race team for all their hard work to provide the best racing possible in the conditions given to them.  Their work is not done however - the Portimao Formula Foiling European Championships begin Friday 3rd May, continuing until Sunday 5th May!
