A Great Event Opening Day in Peru
Posted On:  18/12/2018 08:36:05

Paracas Peru welcomes a total of 38 competitors of 7 nationalities who are ready to challenge each other on the waters of Paracas Bay for the 2018 South American and Pan American IFCA Slalom Continental Titles.

The conditions in Paracas:
Flat water with thermal wind, that normally starts to increase around midday and often at its peak during the afternoons.

Registration took place during the whole day on 15th December followed by a practice race to get everyone ready for the first competition day in one of South America's best windsurfing locations, the beautiful bay of Paracas. The Oasis beach club, the host of the championships, has a perfect set up with all the needed facilities for the race committee and the competitors. The opening ceremony was held later that evening in a festive and true Peruvian style.

The first competition day:
A relaxing start of the day with the first skippers meeting held at 11 am. Sunny skies and a shifty wind that gently started to fill in later in the afternoon. It took a few hours before the wind got suitable enough (12-13 knots) from a more stable direction.

Somewhat after 3 pm, the first heats could finally start for the Junior and Women fleet with the Men fleet (Youth Masters and Grand Masters) shortly after. A total of 16 Heats were sailed, 2 Eliminations completed in medium winds from 12 up to 16+ knots during the late afternoon.
