Champions Crowned at the IFCA Youth and Masters World Championships
Posted On:  11/07/2018 13:36:35

After six days of racing, with unstable weather and wind, the IFCA Slalom Youth & Master World Championships ended at Circolo Surf Torbole, on Garda Trentino.

A lot of work for all the staff of Circolo Surf Torbole but also for the two Race Committees chaired by Claudio Alessandrello and Ezio Ferin, always ready to catch the wind, even in the very early morning of the last day of racing. Despite the efforts done on Saturday, trying to race both in the early morning with north wind and the afternoon with the south one, it couldn't be possible to complete another elimination because the wind didn't last long with enough speed. The Slalom racing rules require indeed a minimum of 11 knots of wind which was unstable during the last days of competition.

The ranking is therefore unchanged compared to first 3 event days, when Junior and Girl divisions completed 3 eliminations while Youth and Master completed two, thanks to the first two days of racing with great wind conditions. For almost 170 competitors this had been a good opportunity to experience the North of Lake Garda (Garda Trentino), already known as the windsurfing "Mecca" in Europe.

Philippines, Peru, Aruba, Guadeloupe and New Caledonia were the most far away countries in this World Championships; French, Turkish and Italian teams had the most participating competitors.

GIRLS
First place of this division is for the French Guadeloupe Jamaine Carlotti.
Among the U-17: 1st place for Davico Ma (who also got the 2nd place in Youth) and 2nd place for the Italian Anna Biagiolini. For the U-15, the Norwegian Oda Sverre, while the Turkish Elif Ercan could win the U-13 division.

JUNIOR
(U-17) Guadalupe is still protagonist with Jules Loan who won before the Turkish Berk Özcan and Nathan Westera from Aruba. Among the very young, Italy won the U-15 division with the Sardinian (Oristano) Nicolò Spanu, and the U-13 one with Matteo Azzarà from Reggio Calabria.

MASTER
It was a great satisfaction for the President of Circolo Surf Torbole, Armando Bronzetti,  because one of his athletes Andrea Cucchi has honoured the 40th anniversary of the club with the victory of the Master division. In second place Turk Bora Kozanoglu with Italian Andrea Rosati claiming third place.

GRAND MASTER
The winner is Laurent Giovannelli from New Caledonia and a beautiful silver medal for the Roman Marco Begalli.

YOUTH
This was the division with the most competitors and the 2018 Youth World Champion is the French Damien Arnoux.
Second place for the French Basile Jacquin and third place for the Italian-Dutch Ennio Dal Pont.
