Heavy Duty Racing on Day 2 in Sylt
Posted On:  17/05/2018 08:29:28

3 eliminations completed in tough sailing conditions, Vincent Langer GER-1 leads the rankings, Nicolas Prien GER-7, winner of the first elimination, follows with only 1 point difference and Gunnar Asmussen GER-2 on third right behind Mr Prien.

The forecast was spot on today, after the 09:30 Skippers meeting the first heat started at 10:30 with winds already up to 18 knots. Some of the competitors had to adjust and get used to the usual North Sea sailing conditions. A few early mistakes were made in heat 4 of the first elimination, the top 4 crossed the finish line on the wrong side following the French man Thomas Merceur who was leading the heat but unfortunately all 4 were scored DNF.

Extreme Slalom Racing was the main focus today with back to back eliminations while the wind kept increasing and the waves growing bigger and bigger. Vincent Langer GER-1 made a come back winning eliminations 2 and 3 after failing to qualify to the A final in the first elimination.

Enio Dal Pont NED-46, Francesco Scagliola ITA-353 and Damien Cervera FRA-422 were some of the strong Youths among the top showing no fear in the wavy conditions here in Sylt.

After the third elimination the Race director decided to call it a day, the competitors were happy with the decision made. Equipment used: small-medium boards with sail sizes from 5.8 to 7.8.

The races were stunningly streamed live and you can re-watch some of the competitions here on the event page or on our facebook page.

1 Vincent Langer GER-1
2 Nicolas Prien GER-7
3 Gunnar Asmussen GER-2
4 Adrian Beholz GER-888
5 Ennio Dal Pont NED-46

The forecast predicts similar conditions for tomorrow, Skippers meeting is scheduled at 09:30 with the first possible start for 10:30.
