Planing Conditions for the M Course in Mondello
Posted On:  06/04/2018 09:18:00

Turquoise waters, brilliant sunshine, wind and gusts welcomed the sailors for a full day of racing. Despite gusty conditions sailing went according to plan and we were able to conduct 4 races for the Gold Men and Women fleets. The Youth Silver fleets finished on their 3rd race of the day.

Competition is hotting up as for some this is a chance to qualify the country and for others this is a personal qualifier for the sailors, who will be competing at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

The Women were first to be called out on the water with 13 knots on the course. By early afternoon the wind ranged from 12 to 23 knots.  These conditions challenged the favourite, Giorgia Speciale ITGA-1, as Greek Aikaterini Divari took the first and fourth bullets of the day securing second place on the leaderboard, and third placed Celina Saubidet-Birkner from Argentina took the bullet in race two.

All to play for in the Men's Gold Fleet as the conditions brought very mixed results for most of the competitors. Finishing the day at the top, Yun Pouliquen FRA-16 took the first bullet of the day. Italian Nicolo Renna could do no better than two thirds but sits in second place overall on equal points with Greek Alexandros Kalpogiannikis who picked up the third race win and a second. Fabien Pianazza FRA-312 was first across the line in the second and fourth races, currently in fifth overall.

The day finished with a gala dinner at 20:00 and as tomorrow a much lighter wind is forecast the intention is to start at 11:00.
