It is All Over! Ivan and Blanca Claim Gold
Posted On:  08/07/2017 10:15:00

Over 80 sailors came to the beautiful Spanish city of Salou for the Raceboard World Championships and the event brought some real talent including the likes of Joao Rodrguez, Ivan Pastor, Nicolas Huguet, Tuuli Petaja and Blanca Manchon.

Those who came to Gizycko, Poland for the Masters had a chance to race in similar conditions this time around as a predominantly sunny venue offered light wind racing throughout the week. In these circumstances the Race Committee managed to have racing on all but one days and 11 races were conducted.

After cancelling races on Thursday, four were planned on the final day today, but it was always going to be a fight with time. First racing was postponed for a little while and the sailors were called ashore after three back to back starts. There was a chance to do one more, which meant a second discard for the fleet. A second discard that would change a lot in the general classification, especially in the men's fleet where Joao Rodriguez had to retire from one race due to equipment failure and was on course side in another. So, although champions were already crowned after 11 races with Ivan Pastor and Blanca Manchon securing their places before it still was a start everybody was looking for.

Long story short, it never happened although the wind was promising when the sailors were going out, the conditions on the water turned out unsuitable for racing.

In the overall men classification, we therefore have Ivan Pastor from Spain ahead of Nicolas Huguet form France and Fernando Pasqualin from Brazil. In the women's fleet Spain's Blanca Manchon won gold, ahead of Tulli Petaja-Siren and Aleksandra Blinnikka both from Finland.
