Blanca Firmly in the Lead
Posted On:  06/07/2017 19:07:31

Everyone was optimistic during the skippers' meeting in the morning. With a little bit of luck a long-distance race was planned for the afternoon with the recourse set along the picturesque beaches of Salou.

Today was however not the day.

The race committee managed to conduct two races for both men and women before the wind fell to 4 kts and the competitors were sent ashore.

The waiting game began and although it picked up for a little while a third race never happened.

Nicolas Huguet and Joao Rodrigues had some nice America's Cup style racing one on one. In an interview for Patrik Pollak Nicolas said he was happy to win that race, as it was not only the speed and pumping that was decisive, but also some serious mind games going on during the race. He was also a little surprised his body still holds up in tough conditions racing the Olympians Joao and Ivan. Ivan however, despite finishing behind Nicolas and Joao, in the last race is still firmly in front with a 7 point advantage.

In the women's fleet Blanca Manchon is even more secure on the top of the list than Ivan, winning all the races so far. An even bigger accomplishment considering she is splitting her time between being a mom and racing. The little boy has some role models in the family with Blanca, her mom, dad, brother Curro and husband competing in the event.
