Tokyo will host the Olympics and Paralympics in 2020 after seeing off rivals Madrid and Istanbul in dramatic circumstances to win the vote. It will be the second time the Japanese capital has hosted the Games having previously done so in 1964.......( more )

Latvian windsurfer Janis Preiss crosses Baltic sea from Liepaja to Gotland in 11 hours on his windsurf board! On Tuesday, 10th of September around 12 midday windsurfer Janis Preiss returned back to Latvia. The day before, on September 9, he crossed the Baltic see on his Gastra Formula windsurf board from Liepaja (Latvia) to Gotland (Sweden) with the assistance of supporting yacht "Nordic Virgin" and covered about 320km in 11 hours. It what has become a uniquely San Francisco sailing competition, the Ronstan Bridge to Bridge race pits kite boarders, windsurfers, skiffs & cameramans against each other & mother nature in an epic 7 mile downwind sprint from the Golden Gate bridge to the Bay bridge. ......( more )

Camille Juban has broken the Guinness world record for the longest duration surfing a wave, in the iconic Chicama, in Peru. The French sailor has ridden the longest windsurfing wave ever, with a total time of 7 minutes and 3 seconds.......( more )

COMING UP IN 2014!

The 2014 Asian Windsurfing Championship returns to Singapore and will take place from 22nd to 26th January from the National Sailing Centre. It is a new venue for this championship, but the National Sailing centre has hosted many international sailing events, including the 2010 inaugural Youth Olympic Games sailing regatta.......( more )

Azores confirmed for 2014 Slalom World Championships

Clube Naval da Praia da Vitoria will host the 2014 IFCA Slalom World Championships on the island of Terceira, in the Azores. This championship is scheduled for May 6th to 11th, and will follow on from the FW Worlds. Terceira will be the focus for two weeks of top class funboard racing in 2014!

Manly Sailing Club, Whangaparaoa, will host the Oceanic Championships for RS:X and Techno 293 from 14th to 16th February 2014. The event will be the Oceanic Continental Qualification regatta for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in the T293 youth division.......( more )

EVENT REPORTS

It was a big blue sky that welcomed competitors to the briefing for the last day of racing. With the prospect of weakening winds, the race committee sent the racers afloat at 10:30, hoping to run two rounds of light wind racing, oscillating between 7 and 13 knots. With such a mix of winds the PWA DAM7 Festival provided the perfect conditions for all disciplines of freestyle to take place. During the event we managed to find a few hours where the winds were calm and the chop was on the smaller side, this allowed the EFPT to run the tow-in qualifiers, and then on the Friday night, the tow-in final.......( more )

After 6 championship races, Algerian Bouras Hamza claims the title of Raceboard Men's African Champion, having scored 4 bullets and a second to count. ......( more )

After the excitement of the wave competition, the 2013 "JEEP" IFCA South American Slalom Championships started on Thursday on the Gallito Ciego lake. Winds were good, 15 to 22 knots which made for very nice sailing in this most amazingly beautiful venue. ......( more )

On day 4, with just one heat left to sail, despite light winds and a diminishing swell, we had the luxury of picking the best possible moment to call the heat. We met early to check the conditions and were on hold much of the day. ......( more )

No doubt about it, light winds are definitely more suited to Max Wojcik (POL-7) than to Patrik Pollak (SVK-1) as Max claimed all three bullets in the last three championship races and thus takes the title of 2013 Raceboard World Champion. ......( more )
