A New Year and a New IWA President - Francesco Zarbo (ITA)

Our thanks to outgoing President Bruno de Wannemaeker, who has just completed his third term of office, and welcome to Francesco Zarbo who is Chairman of the Formula Windsurfing Class.

"The presidency IWA 2015 is both a burden and an honor for me.  I hope our association will continue its mission and I pray that I may continue the work of Bruno with his help and the proximity of all the Presidents of the classes of windsurfing.
My thanks also go to the competence of Ceri and Annie, which are both motor and soul of IWA. Good winds, f.z."

NA Class Association Fees

The number of National Associations joining the IWA continues to grow. Thank you for your continued support of the IWA and its member classes,

Renewal invoices will be circulated by e-mail very soon so please make sure we have your up-to-date national association contact details. It is a requirement, as specified in each Notice of Race for IWA Sanctioned Events: "Competitors shall be members of a National Class Association which is a paid up member of the relevant international class association.

Membership gives:

* Each affiliated NA one vote at the Class AGM, plus one vote (per class) at the IWA AGM
* Listing on the IWA websitewith a webpage
* National Championship Events, open to foreign competitors, added to the relevant Class and IWA calendars
* and more . . .

The race committee set a small course inside the harbour to take advantage of the conditions and competitors set out under chilly grey skies.  Two good races were completed for Techno 293, Raceboard and RS:X.......( more )

RECENT EVENTS

100s of competitions on all continents, 1000s of participants around the world. Lot of fun, new adventures, new places, new friends. Another successful year for BIC Techno 293 One design class.

The 2014 RS:One Trikora Beach World Championship was officially begun on Tuesday 15th December in Bintan island, Indonesia. For the first time, Indonesia, the 2018 Asian Games organisers, hosted an international RS:One event with the strongest fleet an RS:One World championships has seen so far.......( more )

On Saturday 22nd November 2014, SeaYou held its very first Windsurfing challenge in Palm Jumeirah from the magnificent venue of Sofitel, The Palm Resort & Spa.......( more )

With over 150 participants this year's Hong Kong Open was hailed as another success in a long line of successful windsurfing championships organised over many years.  The event is established as one of the continent's major sailing events and is held in particularly high regard for its development of junior and youth racers. With over 100 competitors in the Techno class it affords a wonderful opportunity for young racers to gain experience of international level competition.......( more )

The 4th Asian Beach Games were held in Phuket last week and delivered a intense battle with the RS:One Class.  China confirmed its dominance after its Asian Games victory claiming the Gold medal in Women, while Philippines with the 2012 RS:One world champion took gold in the Men division.......( more )

16 racers from 7 countries representing 3 continents joined the start line for the Formula Experience World Championships taking place at the Laguna Mar Chiquita International Sailing Centre, Miramar, Cordoba, Argentina from 19-24 November. The forecast looked promising and, as the event progressed, other classes would be joining the event for the "Miramar Windsurf Grand Prix".......( more )

A large turnout of participants, friends, relatives and companions enjoyed a big welcome cocktail organized by the Hotel Panamericano Bariloche for the 18th Bariloch Classic 2014. This year we had entrants from Argentina, Chile, the Netherlands, Spain and Brazil in the different modes of Windsurf, Kitesurf, SUP, kayaks and sailboats. ......( more ) ......( more )

The 2015 Downunder Pro moves to a new venue this year on picturesque Lake Macquarie, just north of Sydney. ......( more )

Clube de Vela de Lagos on the Portuguese Algarve will host the 2015 world festival of formula windsurfing. The 2015 event will host 3 world championships - youth, master and women - from 27th April to 2nd May. ......( more )

A healthy New Year's resolution for windsurfers

Both the RS:X and RS:One have been confirmed as equipment to be used in the sailing events scheduled for the 2018 Asian Games.  The announcement was made on 20th November by Malav Schroff, President of the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF).......( more )
